Fair skin and foundations

I have issues with make up due to my skin tone, and I always have. I have problems with my skin tone as I can quite often get a greenish hue which makes me look quite poorly. Foundation has always caused a bit of a love/hate relationship with me and most brands oxidise and make me look orange, which isn’t a good move for anyone.

Naturally, I have had to hunt high and low for brands that cater for multiple undertones, and unfortunately this doesn’t happen to often on the high street.

If you have fair skin like myself then it’s a must that you find out your undertone before you buy what may look like your shade, as the undertone is crucial.

So how do you find out your undertone?

Undertones come in three brackets usually;

Cool: Pink, red, or blue undertones

Warm: Yellow, peach or golden undertones

Neutral: A balance between both cool and warm

If you’re not sure of what your undertone could be there are a few tests you can try…

The White vs. Cream Test: Grab two articles of clothing (or even a towel) — one white and the other off-white. While wearing NO makeup, decide which colour complements your skin tone best? If it’s the pure-white shade, your undertones are warm. If the cream colour suits you more (because the white washes you out), then you have cool undertones. If both flatter you just the same, you’re neutral.

The Vein Test: Look at the veins on your wrists. If they’re green, then you have warm undertones. If your veins are blue, then you have cool undertones. Do you have both colours or do they appear to be blue-green? Then you have neutral undertones.

The Jewellery Test: If gold jewellery enhances your complexion, then you’re likely on the warmer side, if silver jewellery looks best on your skin tone, then you have cool undertones.

My undertone is neutral.
